#LLHATL, #BBW & other shows.. Are they bad examples of women?

Over the weekend I was having a discussion with some friends about reality TV. Of course we all watch it because that’s our entertainment. Especially if you are on any social network, there are always a ton of pictures surfacing after the shows. The question is, is reality TV too much ?

I was born in ’89 and grew up in the 90’s. Back then the stuff that’s going on now was happening. For example, rumors of Jay-z having a love child, Faith Evans supposedly messing with Tupac or even Lil Kim and Foxy Brown’s beef.

Yes it seems like there is always drama around women but its reality. A lot of the situations that take place on VH1 or are being talked about on blogs take place in real life. We have all went through seeing a girlfriend trying to get over an ex. Even women fighting over a dude they both love and the guy is lying to both.

But it is good to see shows like “Hollywood Exs,” “Tia and Tamera” or “Empire Girls” because the women  have their own businesses. I feel the balance is much needed on television. So there isn’t a misconception all (certain races) do is fight. We do have careers and can make our own money.

It is exciting to see Gabby Douglas being a new role model for little girls to look up too. She won the gold medal in the individual all-around, becoming the first African-American woman, and the first woman of color of any nationality, to win the event. Also the first American gymnast ever to win both the team and individual all-around gold at the same Olympics.

Even though there is some ratchetness on the television nowadays at least we are still winning gold medals and we are still at the White House. So we have to take the good with the bad.
